Meet Karen – The Heart Behind Studio Klee-O

Karen’s journey into the art world is rooted in both passion and purpose.

After a 25-year career in Financial Services and a decade in Higher Education, Karen rediscovered her love for painting in 2009—during a difficult time when her son was recovering from major surgery. Art became a source of comfort and creativity, and with encouragement from talented local tutors like the late Jules Simmons and Jess Shaw, Karen began developing her own distinctive style: contemporary pointillism—a bold, dot-based approach full of character and charm.

In 2020, Karen and her family relocated to Tenbury Wells, just before the COVID pandemic and local floods. When her son once again faced major surgery, Karen found herself inspired to create something new—not just for herself, but for him.

With a desire to offer meaningful work experience and long-term employment to her son, Karen opened ART-elier—a welcoming art supplies shop and creative space designed to support both emerging artists and individuals with different needs.

Karen now runs Studio Klee-O from ART-elier, showcasing her artwork, taking commissions for stylised house portraits, and offering unique, handcrafted items including crocheted art bags and fabric keepsakes made from cherished clothing. Her work is a celebration of creativity, resilience, and the importance of family.

ART-elier is more than a shop—it’s a deeply personal project built with love, with inclusivity at its core.
